Hola, Gunther: Aquí te mando la información que aparece en la excelante página güeb de Andrea Suhm-Binder: www.cantabile-subito.de Saludos, Alberich "Biographical notes: Kerstin Thorborg (Swedish mezzo-soprano, 1896-1970) She was born in Venjan and studied singing at the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm. She made her debut in 1924 as Ortrud (!). At this opera house the most strenous roles were given to the youngest and unexperienced newcomers without waiting for growth and artistic development. This experience fortunately did not harm her voice. After six years she appeared at the Nürnberg opera and it was Bruno Walter who engaged her at the Städtische Oper in Berlin. She succeeded Gertrude Rünger at the Vienna State Opera. She made her début there in 1935 as Amneris opposite Alfred Piccaver. She had quite a success as Brangäne. Bruno Walter became one of her most important mentors. She was enhanced by a splendid stage appearance and was a superb actor. She appeared in different roles such as Venus, Kundry, Fricka, Erda, Waltraute and Magdalena. Her Italian opera repertoire included roles such as Amneris, Ulrica and Azucena. Under Bruno Walter?s direction she sang as Orfeo in Gluck?s Orfeo ed Euridice. She also enjoyed success as Eudossia in Respighi?s La Fiamma. She was engaged by a lot of great conductors such as Felix Weingartner, Hans Knappertsbusch and Victor de Sabata. In 1938, when the Nazis annexed Austria, she left for the USA. She made her debut at the Met in 1936 and stayed with its company until 1950. She added Marina , Klytemnestra, Herodias and Octavian (opposite Lotte Lehmann and Emanuel List) to her repertoire. After her retirement in 1950 Kerstin Thorborg lived in Stockholm and became a renowned vocal coach." THORBORG, KERSTIN (nacida en Venjan, 19 de mayo de 1896; muerta en Dalarna el 12 de abril de 1970). Mezzosoprano sueca. Estudió en Estocolmo, debutó allí en 1924 como Ortrud. Ópera de Estocolmo 1924-30; Nürenberg 1930-1; Praga 1932-3; Berlín 1933-5; Viena 1935-8; Salzburgo 1935-7; Londres, Covent Garden, 1936-9; Nueva York, Metropolitan 1936-50. Considerada por Ernest Newman la más grande mezzo wagneriana que hubiese visto y/o oído. Su repertorio incluía Ortrud, Fricka, Brangäne, Kundry, Klytemenestra (Elektra de Strauss), Orpheus y papeles de ópera italiana. |
